PUKEKURA PARK, New Plymouth
Screenprint adapted from an original painting.
The print evolved from a commission to paint Pukekura Park.
Many of my sketch drawings and colour studies included the bridge.
By combining these glimpses of the bridge I have arrived at an overall ‘bridging’ composition which allowed me to include many of the activities that occur on my favourite lake.
This is the second printing of Poet’s Bridge, exploring a different size and intensities of the original colours.
May I remind you the title ‘Poet’s Bridge’ relates to the funding for the construction of the bridge in Pukekura Park. It was from the winnings made for the donor from a racehorse called ‘Poet’, not as some believe because a poet committed suicide from the bridge.
